Sit & Share is a community-based program to create welcoming places in downtown Los Altos where people of all generations can meet and relax on comfortable furniture and share time together with friends and family. The furniture is purchased, donated and owned by community members and placed in targeted, common open areas accessible to all. The furniture consists of beautiful teak sofas, chairs and tables with matching citron green cushions and large Tuscan orange umbrellas.
Los Altos Hills resident and Sit & Share Founder Robin Katsaros had the idea when attending a Community Conversations workshop in June 2012 focused on Place Making. The idea provided by internationally renowned speakers Fred Kent and Kathy Madden of Project for Public Spaces (www.pps.org) that “great public spaces are the ‘front porches’ of our cities . . . where celebrations are held, social exchanges take place, friends run into each other, and multi-generational cultures mix” resonated with her. She began work on putting together a community program for downtown Los Altos to foster those ideas and thus Sit & Share was born.
